Monday - February 10th, 2025
Bring your laptop, tablet, or phone—and don’t forget a notebook! Together, we’ll dive into researching the questions generated during our Voter Engagement Catalyst. These questions focus on the duties, roles, and boundaries of our city government and will form the foundation of a collectively written compendium for civic education. Answers will be sourced and cited, using the primary texts of the Gulfport City Charter, Comprehensive Plan, and budget.
Just a few of the questions we’ll be researching include:
-
Does the council earn a living wage?
-
What are the metrics for determining ward designations?
-
How can citizens gain traction and contribute to problem-solving with the council?
-
How are the citizen-led initiatives converted from proposal to action by the city council?
-
Are there guidelines or outlines for how council members are to hear the needs of their constituents?
Over the next few weeks, we’ll work together to find answers, striving to clarify and articulate the roles and responsibilities of our local government. Your contributions will help create a resource that empowers our community and deepens civic understanding.
